MISSION: Promoting & Supporting the Growing, Showing, and Enjoyment of Dahlias in our community
SEMDS is a community of passionate dahlia growers, exhibitors, and enthusiasts dedicated to promoting the beauty, diversity, and cultivation of dahlias in our region. We provide education, mentorship, and networking opportunities for growers of all experience levels — from curious beginners to seasoned hybridizers. Through our annual show, member meetings, workshops, garden walks, and tuber sales, we celebrate these magnificent flowers and support one another in growing and displaying them successfully. We are affiliated with the American Dahlia Society and committed to advancing the knowledge and enjoyment of dahlias throughout Southeastern Michigan.
Membership Advantages
Monthly Newsletter – Published on the first of each month and informs on: Upcoming events, zoom meeting links, growing tips, volunteer opportunities and recaps of recent activities
Monthly Meetings – January–March: Bloomfield Township Library and Spring–Fall: Telly’s Greenhouse in Troy – Learn hands-on techniques with fellow growers
Dahlia Talk (Zoom Meetings) Second Thursday of every month, these interactive sessions allow members to ask questions, share experiences and learn from seasoned growers
Find a Mentor – Pair up with experienced members for guidance, support, and friendship.
Training Opportunities – Educational meetings and garden walks tailored for all skill levels
Garden Walks – Visit members’ gardens to see stunning dahlias in bloom and gather ideas
Annual Dahlia Tuber & Plant Sale (May) – Held at Telly’s Greenhouse. Perfect for beginners and seasoned growers alike. A great opportunity to volunteer and connect.
Annual Dahlia Show (September) – Hosted at the Orchard Mall, featuring 800+ breathtaking blooms. Whether exhibiting, volunteering, or visiting, this is a must-see event!
